Weekly figures: again fewer new corona cases, line goes downwards | Inland

The National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM) will again provide weekly figures on the course of the outbreak on Tuesday. In the past six days, the institute received 10,045 reports of positive tests, an average of 1,674 per day. This could bring the weekly figure to 11,500 to 12,000 positive tests.

That would be 10 to 15 percent less than last week’s figure, when RIVM registered 13,347 positive tests. That was more than 16 percent lower than the previous week. A week earlier, the number of positive tests also fell by more than 10 percent. The Netherlands is now back at the level of just before the fourth wave in July.

Hospitals

RIVM also reports on Tuesday how many corona patients have been admitted to hospitals in the past week. That’s probably about 200, up from about 300 the week before. The number of reported deaths from corona is also falling. In the past six days, RIVM registered the death of 26 corona patients. Last week, the institute received 45 reports of deaths in a week, but that was an outlier that was partly caused by many reports from August.

The institute also calculates the new reproduction number on Tuesday, which indicates how quickly the virus is spreading. The figure fell to 0.91 late last week after hovering around 1 for a long time. This corresponds to the decreasing number of positive tests.
