Weekend brings mini spring :: wetter.at

Spring feelings could arise in Austria next weekend. At least according to the weather forecast by the Central Institute for Meteorology and Geodynamics (ZAMG), the weather is likely to do so. But it is well known that Monday, Sunday and the sun in this case are followed by storm, rain and snow.

Friday

The details: On Friday, the sun shines almost undisturbed in the western and southern parts of the country under high pressure. The sun also shows up at least temporarily from Upper Austria to the east as well as in Burgenland and above the eastern outskirts. However, denser and sometimes also extensive cloud fields pass through from the northwest. But rain is not to be expected. The wind comes from northwest to north and still blows moderately, especially in the east and on the eastern edge of the Alps. Temperatures start in the morning at minus ten to plus four degrees, and reach four to nine degrees in the afternoon.

Saturday

On Saturday, high air pressure in the Eastern Alps determines the weather. Sunshine prevails until evening. The sun even shines undisturbed for long stretches of the day. Only in the Danube valley and over the eastern lowlands, on the eastern edge of the Alps and in the Graz basin does the day start with fog or high fog of varying durability. During the day, however, the sun can assert itself more and more often. The wind is weak to moderate from east to south. The early temperatures are between minus seven and plus two degrees, even lower in snow-covered alpine valleys, the daily maximum temperatures between four and eleven degrees, with the highest temperatures in the west of the country.

Sunday

Sunshine continues to prevail on Sunday and the sky is often cloudless, especially in the mountainous regions. In the lowlands there are often flat fog fields in the morning. The wind is weak to moderate, sometimes lively on the mountains from southeast to southwest. Early temperatures are around minus seven to minus one degree, even lower in snow-covered alpine valleys, and the daily highs reach four to ten degrees.

Monday

On Monday the good weather is over: A cold front is coming up from the northwest and there are more clouds again. Rain initially spreads from the northwest, the snowfall limit drops from 1,500 to 2,000 meters in the morning to 700 to 1,200 meters in the evening. It rains or snows the most on the northern edge of the Alps; it remains largely dry in the south of the main Alpine ridge. The wind turns from west to northwest, increases strongly and reaches storm strength again. From minus three to plus five degrees in the morning, the thermometer rises to nine to 16 degrees. In the afternoon, the temperatures drop significantly from the north.

Tuesday

On Tuesday, clouds dominate north of the main Alpine ridge and it rains or snows, sometimes persistently and sometimes heavily in the traffic jams. Further east there are a few showers and in the south it is often dry. The snow line is between 500 and 1,200 meters. The wind blows in the mountains and on the north side of the Alps often stormy from the west, in the south it remains rather light wind. The early temperatures are minus three to plus six degrees, the maximum daily temperatures are three to 14 degrees.
