Offenbach (dpa / lhe) – April 2020 was extremely sunny and dry in Hesse. According to the preliminary evaluation of the measuring stations of the German Weather Service (DWD) published on Wednesday, there was almost 295 hours of sunshine in Hesse. This is almost twice the average duration of 152 hours of sunshine this month.
With so much sun, there was hardly any time for rain: According to the preliminary information, around 15 liters per square meter fell in Hesse in April – 59 liters would be common this month. Hesse thus remained below the German average of almost 17 liters per square meter, which made April the third driest since records began.
The temperature average of 10.8 degrees was above the value of the reference period of 7.5 degrees. However, the temperature in Fulda dropped to minus 7.7 degrees on the night of April 1, an April record in the series of measurements dating back to 1949.
