Weather: New storm will sweep Switzerland – Switzerland

Already affected Monday evening by the storm Petra, Switzerland will again be swept by violent gusts of wind in the coming days. MeteoSwiss issued alerts for stormy winds of degrees 3 and 4 on Romandie from Sunday evening at 9 p.m. and until Tuesday midnight.

The maximum gusts in exposed places can be 100 to 140 km / h in the plain and 130 to 180 km / h above 1000 meters, specifies MeteoSwiss.

30 cm of snow above 1500 meters

A powerful west current will set up on Sunday afternoon. It will cause these stormy winds and precipitation until midweek. The rain-snow limit will gradually drop to 2000 meters Sunday, 1000 meters Monday and even 700 meters Tuesday. Above 1500 meters, there could be between 10 and 30 cm of fresh snow. And many probable snowdrifts, warns MeteoSwiss.

Switzerland was swept by strong winds overnight from Monday to Tuesday. Storm gusts from Petra surpassed 150 km / h in places, but the damage remained moderate. Peaks at 153 km / h were recorded at Chasseral (BE) when they reached 152 km / h at Hörnli in the canton of Zurich. The Moléson (FR) was meanwhile swept by gusts at 146 km / h. La Dôle (VD) and the Col des Mosses (VD), also experienced gusts exceeding 100 km / h.
