Wearing a mask: the obligation relaxed at the Coast

Three seaside resorts have taken new measures for September 1.

LWearing a mouth mask will only be compulsory in high traffic areas of the “Westkust” police zone from Tuesday 1 September. Announced Tuesday by the police zone, the relaxation of the measure concerns the territories of De Panne, Koksijde and Nieuwpoort and was decided by the three mayors involved. The rule will only come into effect if the numbers for the Coast remain good. Everyone must nevertheless be equipped with a mouth mask.

Wearing a mouth mask will, from September 1, be compulsory only in places where the social distance of 1.50m cannot be respected. It remains mandatory on the dike, in shopping streets, in restaurants (until the customer is seated) as well as on public transport. Thus, the mayors submit to the rules imposed by the federal government and the province.

Provide a clear perspective

“With this decision, we want to offer our residents, secondary residents and tourists a clear perspective for the future. September 1 marks the resumption of school and the end of summer vacation. Calm should gradually return to the Coast ”, declared the mayor of Koksijde, Marc Vanden Bussche. “There is therefore no point in continuing to make it compulsory to wear a mouth mask everywhere. “

The municipal councils of De Panne, Koksijde and Nieuwpoort will communicate more details later on the places considered to be particularly frequented.
