Wearing a mask: police checks are REINFORCED this weekend, “the information is not yet well enough”

With all the new measures that are applicable from this Saturday, July 25, police checks are reinforced on the ground, in particular to verify the wearing of a mask. Two of our teams were in Mons and in the center of Brussels this morning to follow the various agents responsible for enforcing these “Covid rules”.

In this street, you will have to put on your mask permanently. “This sentence, Jenifer and François, agents of the Brussels Capital-Ixelles police zone, have been repeating it since this morning.”People do it without a problem. There is no real reluctance. There are some who are rather positive, it is just that the information is not yet passed well enough. A lot of people don’t know it yet.

If, on the whole, the wearing of the mask is respected, some passers-by have not yet taken up this habit. But the citizens met by our team are very understanding. “It’s surprising, but it takes what it takes. We adapt. I think we have to bring those numbers down“, comments a passerby.

In this police zone, 7 teams are mobilized on a daily basis to enforce the so-called “Covid” rules. There are many checks, also in bars and restaurants. Today, no report is drawn up. “Throughout the weekend, we are in prevention and from Monday, we will start to sanction.“Stricter and more checks are planned to ensure everyone’s safety.

In Mons either, no report is drawn up this weekend. “The repression phase is not yet relevant, explains Bryan Lefebvre, police inspector for the Mons-Quévy area. In view of the standard which is relatively recent, we are content to inform the citizen, to remind him of the measures in force and the phase of repression will come afterwards..”

As in Charleroi, it is the entire hypercentre of Mons, here called intramural, which is affected by this obligation to wear a mask, such as commercial areas and their car parks, parks and a leisure area that we calls Le Grand Large. The area is therefore quite large, it is controlled by the police, in particular the emergency police. Bryan Lefebvre, Mons-Quévy police inspector gives a positive assessment of the morning. “Most of the citizens wore the mask, although the ordinance is relatively recent. Nevertheless, there were a few oversights from several citizens, whom we called to order. Most of the people who were not carriers were also French nationals, so they were not aware of the measure.”

The fine can be up to 250 euros and 750 euros for professionals. As a reminder, children under 12 and athletes are not affected by this obligation.
