Weapon Supplier to Papuan KKB Arrested, Earns Rp1.39 Billion

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

The police have arrested Ratius Siswa alias Neson Murib, who is suspected of being involved in a firearms supply chain for armed criminal group (KKB) alias OPM in Puncak Jaya Regency, Papua.

“The person concerned, Neson Murib, is suspected of selling firearms and ammunition to the KKTB in Puncak Jaya,” said Head of the Nemangkawi Operations Public Relations Task Force, Kombes Iqbal Alqudusy to reporters, Tuesday (15/6).

Iqbal said his party suspected that Neson had carried out a number of firearm transactions and made a profit of up to billions of rupiah. The total that Nelson sent and received reached Rp1.39 billion.

According to him, Neson was arrested at Mulia Airport, Puncak Jaya Regency. Nelson was about to go to Timika Regency. He brought cash of Rp. 370 million

Iqbal suspected that the money was used to buy firearms. His party will investigate a network of firearms and ammunition dealers to groups labeled as terrorists by the government.

“The team will still dig up information on sources of funds, as well as remittance activities to buy weapons and ammunition from the suspect Neson Murib,” he said.

Previously, Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs (Menko Polhukam) Mahfud MD said the problems that had occurred in Papua and West Papua could not be solved only with weapons and the eruption of war.

This, he said, was in accordance with the direction of President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) who wanted a welfare approach as the main capital for resolving conflicts in Papua.

“In principle, according to the president’s directives, solving problems in Papua should not be done with weapons and explosions, but with dialogue for the sake of welfare,” said Mahfud, quoted from the official YouTube account of the Indonesian Polhukam, Tuesday (15/6).
