‘We are going to end La Liga, we are currently dealing with that’

Javier Tebas, president of the Spanish League, indicates that there is a good chance that European football competitions will be ended. Tebas has consulted with colleagues from Italy and Germany to deal with the financial problems.

If the competition has to be shut down, it costs a lot of money, says Tebas. “That financial loss could be a quarter of the budgeted income,” he told the Spanish AS. “I had phone calls and video conferences all weekend. A very important week is coming.”

UEFA will consult on the steps to follow regarding European competitions. “I have been in contact with various presidents of European competitions. We are working on a solution because the coronavirus is a health problem and there are doctors for health. We are here to offer a solution to the upcoming economic problem.”

Tebas rejects the suggestion that the competitions can be decided in a play-off. “What we are dealing with now is that we are going to end the competition. This week, important decisions can be made in Europe on that subject.”
