We are doing our best to prevent fuel prices from galloping

We are doing everything to ensure that fuel prices are one of the lowest in Europe and we are doing everything to prevent fuel prices from galloping too much, declared Orlen’s CEO Daniel Obajtek in an interview with TV Trwam. He estimated that prices will stabilize.

We are doing our best to make fuel prices one of the lowest in Europe and we are doing our best to prevent fuel prices from galloping too much. (…) If we have certain plans, assumptions that are in terms of margin and volume, if fuel sales decline, then we automatically lower the price to make up much more with the amount of sales, not with the unit price. This is how concerns around the world operate. If we decide that fuels are to be cheaper, it must result from business decisions, i.e. it must result from the fact that – let’s assume – we have a smaller sales volume and we want to obtain a larger volume, so we automatically lower prices and these are market mechanisms. We can only use market mechanisms. We cannot suddenly say that we will lower fuel prices and sell below the margin, because this is acting to the detriment of the company. Doing so could be a disaster for the board of directors. We can carry out activities in the field of reducing the margin, increasing the volume by reducing the margin and we are doing such mechanisms, ”said the head of Orlen quoted on the Radio Maryja website.

Obajtek said that until the global economy calms down, “we must be prepared for all variants.”

We are in a global economy. We are not able to make our own decisions. We have certain mechanisms that we use. In the case of Orlen, we are trying to produce as many fuels as possible in order to automatically spread the price over a larger volume. We are trying to add weight to refineries and we are trying to diversify costs

He pointed.

A different situation than in 2012.

The President of Orlen added that Poles earn “much more” than they earned in 2012, and the price per liter of fuel was then similar to the current one.

And in 2012, there was already a fuel price of PLN 6. Currently, the fuel price is also about PLN 6, but we have much higher earnings. We employ people who also have to pay more, because the minimum rate was PLN 9, and now it is PLN 18. The price comes from certain inputs that we have to add to the overall fuel price. As PKN Orlen, we do everything we can to ensure that the fuels are one of the cheapest in Europe, and we are successful in that

– said Obajtek.

A valuable declaration

The head of the Płock concern assured that Orlen does everything to prevent fuel prices from rising drastically.

I believe the situation will end soon, as prices will cause global consumption to decline. Then there will be a smaller supply and this will also have an impact on the price. The price of gas is starting to drop minimally, so there is a glimmer of hope that prices will stabilize. (…) As the Polish Oil Concern, we do everything to optimize prices. I am hopeful and believe that the period of consumption is over and that prices will stabilize

– assessed Obajtek.
