The 24-year-old Norwegian has impressed in freestyle at the end of the season, winning his first World Cup event in Les Rousses a month ago. At that time, however, it was over 10 kilometers and in Planica it is 15. In the fight for the gold, of course, the superb Johannes Høsflot Klæbo cannot be counted out – even if he has not actually won a single distance freestyle race this World Cup season.

The last WC race over 15 kilometers?
This season, the International Skiing and Snowboarding Federation (FIS) has introduced common World Cup distances on the women’s and men’s sides – 10, 20 (skiathlon) and 50 kilometers. An evaluation awaits after the season. Then the championship distances may also change. If the World Cup change takes effect at the World Cup as well, it means that Wednesday’s race could be the last men’s race in the World Cup over 15 kilometers.
