In 2015, the Wilhelm Busch School in Jügesheim was awarded the “Health Promoting School” certificate. In order to achieve this goal, the conditions of sub-areas must be met.
This includes topics such as “Traffic & Mobility”, “Exercise & Perception”, “Nutrition & Consumption”, “Teacher Health” and “Addiction & Violence Prevention”, all of which play an important role in everyday school life. The main aim is to enable the pupils to deal with health hazards independently or not to endanger them at all. At a small ceremony, school principal Angelika Stelzer-Dasbach explained what went into the everyday school life of the children at the Wilhelm-Busch-Schule in order to meet the requirements of the partial certificates. In addition to the cooperation with sports clubs, there is the project “walking to school” and the “running bus”. The cycling training is also started early, so that the driving license can be obtained in the fourth grade.
A group in the second grade showed how they can cope with demanding situations while cycling. Slalom ride through bars, under obstacles, steer with one hand and take an object with the other hand and put it down again and even continue driving with three large rubber rings that were stacked on the helmet without them falling off. Everything went smoothly.
Another group proved that they are similarly skilled at jumping rope. “In the years that followed after receiving the overall certificate, the school continued to work actively on the topics of health promotion and successfully applied for recertification as a” health promoting school “, explained Susanne Meißner, head of the state education authority for the city and district of Offenbach, and presented the school director the certificate from the Hessian Ministry of Culture as well as 300 euros and a few other gifts.
