Watch: A women’s march in Argentina to legalize abortion

Hundreds of Argentines, the overwhelming majority of them women, marched in front of the Argentine National Congress in support of the abortion bill approved by the House of Representatives, and will vote on it later in the Senate.

The Argentine Parliament adopted this bill on December 11th.

Latin America has some of the most restrictive abortion laws in the world.

Currently, Argentine women can only legally abort in cases of rape or a risk to the health of the pregnant woman. But NGOs report 500,000 abortions a year.

Exceptions are only considered in cases of rape or if the pregnancy poses a risk to the mother’s health.

The law under discussion will allow abortions up to the fourteenth week of pregnancy.
