Washington Football Team plans to use quarterback Alex Smith in the Sunday Night Football Game against the Philadelphia Eagles, sources told Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network.
Smith missed the last two weeks due to a strained calf. The quarterback is officially listed as “questionable”.
The 36-year-old feels good and has also trained this week. Smith will have a final assessment on Sunday morning.
Washington can secure the NFC East and the first playoff participation since 2015 with a win against the division opponents.
Dwayne Haskins started in Smith’s absence. However, Washington replaced him with Taylor Heinicke during the Week 16 matchup against the Carolina Panthers and sacked Haskins on Monday.
Smith is a leading candidate for Comeback Player of the year award. He passed for 1,420 yards, four touchdowns, and six interceptions in seven games.
