Washington names street along Saudi embassy after Khashoggi

The Saudi embassy in Washington will therefore always have to mention Khashoggi’s name when visitors are pointed to the new address.

When he was killed in the Turkish city of Istanbul in 2018, Khashoggi was working for the Washington Post newspaper. He was allegedly killed on the orders of Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and other senior government officials.

Justice in Turkey states that he was murdered and that his body was then smuggled in parts from the Saudi consulate in Istanbul.

Democracy advocate

According to the Washington city council, the journalist was “a fierce advocate for democracy, human rights and the rule of law.” By naming the 213-meter street after the journalist, the city hopes to commemorate him in a way that “cannot be hidden or suppressed.”
