On Saturday, January 16, members of the Massachusetts National Guard left Melrose to address Joe Biden’s inauguration ceremony in Washington DC.

Charlie Baker sent 500 members of the Massachusetts National Guard to the United States Capitol to prevent any disturbances that might occur.

Senator Ed Markey, who plans to attend the inauguration, indicated that one should be on alert for a possible threat. “Washington, DC is now an armed camp. And we thank the Massachusetts National Guard for helping (with security), ”notes CBS Boston.

Last week, Trump supporters stormed the United States Capitol. Property was destroyed and five people died during the riots.

With its work on January 20, the National Guard must ensure that history does not repeat itself.

As for the opening day itself, Markey says he is looking forward to attending the ceremony and feels it will be a safe transition of power. He knows a level of threat exists not just in Washington, DC, but in government buildings across the country and is constantly being informed.

Markey commented that “all those security personnel assure us that they are doing everything possible to protect against a successful attack,” indicates CBS Boston.
