This Friday, January 14, Washington DC is experiencing a winter storm that predicts an extremely cold weekend, the authorities request to take precautions for the mixture of snow and water on Sunday, which will mean a clear worsening of conditions.
A particularly strong storm is expected on Sunday that is estimated to reach the I-95 corridor, including Fairfax and Montgomery counties.
The context: Temperatures are averaging in the 40s Fahrenheit this Friday and are somewhat above normal. However, gusts of wind make the wind chill drop to 35°.
- Gusts fluctuate between 30 and 35 km/h and have been common since midday. The forecast ensures that they will remain until the night, when temperatures drop even more.
And now that?: The cooler air will give a stronger push this Friday night. In strong winds, you’ll feel it if you’re outside, so be prepared for cold weather. There will surely be few, if any, clouds.

- Snow on January 16 may be “moderate” to “heavy” for a brief period across the area before an overnight winter mix begins and this should change to overnight rain.
- It seems likely that there will be enough freezing precipitation to make travel dangerous during the day and at night.
- Temperatures should remain below freezing for much of the day, but are expected to gradually rise Sunday night.
