Eleven new sites for possible construction of dams. The Ministry expands the list – ČT24 – Czech Television

The Ministry of the Environment has newly approved the localities of Batelov, Blazice, Bělkovice, Ostružno, Tuřany, Chlum, Smilov, Albrechtice, Střížov, Hředle II and Chumava. At the end of May, it agreed with the localities of Kačenka, Vosovec, Zaječí, Brodce, Chotěbudice, Skřiváň, Rybník, Stěbořice, Nabdín and Stříbrný potok.

Within the approved localities, most of them, namely five, belong to the Vysočina region, followed by the Central Bohemian Region with three approved places.

The Minister of the Environment Richard Brabec (YES) emphasized that the inclusion in the so-called general of the area does not mean that a dam will actually be built in the locality.

“It’s definitely not about issuing a building permit. The sites in the general area will now be protected against possible other strategic use of the area, so as not to devalue the investments made in the event of future construction of reservoirs, “he said.

Among other things, transport corridors or industrial and energy facilities that could disrupt the geological conditions of the site may not be built on the protected areas.

Brabec has previously pointed out that if a decision is made to build one of the reservoirs, an EIA environmental impact assessment must be prepared for each of them, the plan will go through a public consultation and other procedures.

The intention is criticized by environmental organizations

The intention of the Ministry of Agriculture has long been criticized by environmental organizations. He does not see the plan to build dams as an effective fight against drought. Jan Skalík from the Rainbow Movement said that thinking about building new dams is not a “question of the day”.

“We think that none of those dams should be seriously considered now, because these are projects that, as a result, cannot help much against drought or floods,” he says. He added that, according to the organization’s calculations, measures close to nature would be more effective, including capturing water in fields. Environmentalists have long advocated the need to create, for example, draws, overhangs and limits.

The Ministry of the Environment also emphasized that the resort will continue to support the restoration of wetlands and natural riverbeds. “It is definitely worth the state to invest large sums in the revitalization of watercourses. The course of revitalization of streams, but also the cancellation of land reclamation is very slow, progress is not there, “criticizes Skalík.

He added that the reason is the need for a large administrative background and agreements with the owners. He believes that the state should place more emphasis on these areas.

The state is currently building six dams, namely Senomat, Šanova and Kryr in Central Bohemia and Ústí nad Labem, as well as Nové Heřminov in the Bruntál region, Vlachovice in the Zlín region and Skalička in the Bečva region, which is on the border of the Olomouc and Zlín regions.
