Washington and London Advise Nationals to Avoid Riots in France: Travel Safety Advisory

Washington and London advise their nationals to avoid assembly areas.

The American and British diplomats warned their nationals against the riots in France, which occurred after the death of Nahel, 17, killed by the shooting of a policeman in Nanterre.

In his travel advicethe British Foreign Office underlines this Friday that riots have been taking place since June 27 “throughout France” with in particular the risk of disruption in transport and the possibility that curfews will be put in place locally.

“The locations and times of the riots are unpredictable,” writes the British Foreign Office.

Avoid gatherings

Authorities are urging Britons to “follow the media”, “avoid areas where riots are taking place” and “follow the recommendations of the authorities”.

The United States issued a similar message on Thursday on the website of their embassy in France. “These protests are expected to continue and could turn violent,” it said. U.S. citizens are urged to “avoid mass gatherings and areas of heavy police activity.”

The American authorities also recommend following the orders of the police and the authorities, as well as following the development of events in the media.
