Warsaw. Protest of entrepreneurs on Nowogrodzka Street

Businessmen, dissatisfied with the restrictions, gathered in the evening at Nowogrodzka Street, near the headquarters of Law and Justice. Earlier, the protest of “closed industries” took place at Zamkowy Square, where they presented their demands and collected signatures for a petition to the government.

On Friday evening, the Confederation organized a protest of entrepreneurs on Nowogrodzka Street under the slogan “Open the economy, close the PiS government!”. They took to the streets to express their opposition to the further shutdown of the economy. The police are also there.

“Under the conditions of the current restrictions, the Polish economy loses over PLN 420 million every day! And yet the PiS government is already preparing for a complete lockdown, which, for confusion, it calls ‘national quarantine’. Then the daily losses will be even twice as large! Thousands of Polish entrepreneurs are threatened with bankruptcy, thousands of employees may lose their jobs or part of their salaries. This is a nightmare founded by the governments of irresponsible madmen who consistently, step by step, destroy our social and economic life “- we read in the Confederation’s entry announcing the event.

They argue that you can either object or “leave behind a scorched earth on which it will be difficult for us to live and develop for many years.” “Let us all be in protest, beyond all divisions! This is about the future of the entire Polish economy, about the future of each of us. We must stop this mad march of the rulers towards the abyss!” – wrote the Confederation.

“Closed industries” protest

Earlier, around 11 am, representatives of the gastronomic, fitness, hotel and event industries gathered at Plac Zamkowy. “(…) the leading organizations of our 4 industries over the weekend prepared the final postulates and proposals for the rulers that unite our sectors in a joint fight not for a better tomorrow, but simply for … tomorrow!” – was the announcement. The organizers of the event wanted to collect as many signatures as possible under a document containing six demands for government support for closed industries.

The reporter of tvnwarszawa.pl Mateusz Szmelter went to the venue. As he reported, “about a hundred people” gathered at 11 am. – There are three signatures on a petition. Industry postulates can be seen, among others in the form of a large CV. Some have flags with the inscription “Entrepreneurs’ strike” – described Szmelter.

He also added that the event was secured by the police. – There are a lot of police cars and officers – our reporter says.

Downs of up to 95 percent

At 11.30 a.m. at a press briefing, representatives of four closed industries explained why they had decided to collect signatures on the petition. – This industry builds three million workers (…) all these industries generate emotions and happiness. Without these services, our everyday life will be much sadder – said Bartosz Bieszyński from the Meetings and Events Industry Council at the beginning.

As he noted, all four industries have felt “locked in hangars” since March. – Sometimes we don’t know what tomorrow will bring. We are unable to plan anything. State restrictions, various bans that affect us, but also epidemic restrictions (…) our decreases are between 60 and 95 percent and so we are already entering the eighth month – he calculated.

And he added: therefore, we have prepared six key postulates that you can sign up for directly or online.

They announced their postulates

Among the postulates of the “four closed industries” he mentioned: the abolition of PFR subsidies (Polish Development Fund – ed.), Ie the recruitment of applications. They also demand a financial shield, compensation for losses, support for loans and leasing, co-financing of labor costs (extension of the Social Insurance Institution, subsidy for parking) and changes in the criteria for receiving aid. According to the protesters, the funding should depend on the decline in turnover. In their opinion, not every entrepreneur suffered the same. This is a total of six demands. They were the seventh to mention cooperation with the government.

– We, as these four industries, are ready to work with the government 24 hours a day, shoulder to shoulder, building this bridge together, not separately – said Bieszyński. He also added that on Monday the document with the demands was submitted to state institutions. In turn, on Friday morning, a meeting was held with representatives of the Ministry of Labor and Technology Development and the Polish Development Fund. However, as representatives of “closed industries” added, they did not hear any details of planned aid for them.

Government-issued restrictions and restrictions

Closed industries are protesting after the announcement of new restrictions by Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki. First, from October 17, among others, gyms, aquaparks, swimming pools and restaurants (from now on, only take-away orders are possible). The event industry has also suffered: it is forbidden to organize large events or conferences. In turn, from this Saturday, November 7, the activity of museums and cinemas will be suspended. Shops in shopping malls will also be closed, except for grocery stores, drugstores and pharmacies.
