Washington, May 23. American doctors called a symptom that appears on the skin, which can warn of high blood sugar.
Scientists examined patients with diabetes mellitus and found that one of the characteristic signs of the development of the disease is the so-called xerosis, which is characterized by excessive dryness and roughness of the skin, as well as peeling and itching.
Running xerosis leads to the formation of cracks in the feet, elbows and other parts of the body, experts say. The effect is due to the effect of glucose levels on fluid loss in the body.
“Skin diseases that diabetes patients often do not pay attention to are common complications of type 1 and type 2 diabetes,” the doctors said.
Scientists warn that if you ignore excessive dry skin, a symptom can lead to a serious complication of diabetes mellitus – diabetic foot syndrome.
Earlier, Natalya Mokrysheva, Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Director of the Research Center for Endocrinology of the Ministry of Health, said that in case of COVID-19 infection in patients with metabolic disorders, the risk of death is two to four times higher than in people without such diseases.
The doctor confirmed that people with systemic lesions, multiple organ disorders, diabetes mellitus, autoimmune diseases and adrenal diseases are at risk for infection with coronavirus, the Izvestia newspaper reported. Mokrysheva clarified that overweight is not associated with increased risks of infection with COVID-19. However, such people have impaired respiratory function, which leads to additional problems.
