Warmest August 11 ever recorded, never before five days above 35 degrees | Inland

As in previous years, it is raining heat records in De Bilt this year. On January 31, February 16, April 5, 6, and 8, and August 8 and 9, the main station also set an official heat date record. With Tuesday, the counter is already at eight heat date records in De Bilt.

Last year, De Bilt registered fourteen heat records and one cold record. 2018 also had fourteen date heat records at the main station, as well as three colder records for the maximum temperature. The fact that many more heat records than cold records are being broken is due to global warming. An average year has eight heat records and only one cold record. Without global warming, the ratio between heat and cold records would be about one state to one.

In many places in our country the temperature will be well above 30 degrees on Tuesday. Maximums of 30 to 34 degrees can also be expected in the coming days.

Five days above 35 degrees

In Arcen (Limburg) it became 35.9 degrees on Tuesday afternoon, making it 35 degrees or warmer somewhere in the Netherlands for the fifth day in a row, Weeronline reports. This has never happened since the measurements began.

The previous record was during the heatwave of 2003, when it became 35 degrees every day somewhere in the Netherlands for four days in a row (on 6, 7, 8 and 9 August).

The current series of over-35s started last Friday in Arcen. On Saturday, the hottest day of the year, it became 35 degrees or warmer at 10 of the 34 official KNMI weather stations. Then the worst heat dampened slightly. For example, Monday August 10 only reached 35 degrees in Arcen. Arcen was also the hottest place in the country on Tuesday with 35.9 degrees. This means that a record-long series of five days with maximums of 35 degrees or more is a fact.
