Sunlight is vital for humans and nature, but it can also cause a lot of damage. Therefore cream. Especially the children. Warentest has tested corresponding products for the offspring and found that there are “very good” products for little money.

Putting sunscreen on children is about as much fun for parents as brushing their teeth. All whining doesn’t help – both must be. So that the torment then also offers the necessary protection, it is essential to pay attention to a suitable product when choosing the means.

Apart from that, it is important not to spill, but to pad, so apply plenty of sunscreen. Only with reliable UVA and UVB protection can parents protect their little ones from sunburn and avoid long-term damage such as skin cancer.

Die Stiftung Warentest examined 19 children’s sunscreen sprays, lotions and creams at prices ranging from 1 to 24.90 euros per 100 milliliters. In addition to compliance with the sun protection factor (SPF) and UVA protection, critical ingredients, the declaration and packaging and how the products can be applied were also examined.

Two are “very good” and cheap

Result: 4 of the 19 sunscreens for children do not live up to their promises, including a popular, well-selling product (“Sundance Kids Sonnenmilch” by DM”) and three natural cosmetics (including the expensive “Biosolis Sonnenmilch” and “Ey Kids Sun – fluid”). They each collect a “poor” because they do not comply with the advertised sun protection (UVB) or UVA protection.

However, most of the remedies in the test are convincing. Two inexpensive products won the test with “very good”, namely the “Cien Sun Kids Sonnencreme” from Lidl for 2.75 euros and the “Sunozon Kids Sonnenspray” from Rossmann for 1.68 euros (both grades 1.5). The “Lavozon Kids Sonnenmilch” from Müller Drogeriemarkt is good and also inexpensive for 1.48 euros (1.6).

Environmental and savings tip: Sunscreens for children can also be used by adults. A large pack for everyone causes less waste than many small ones. Sunscreens from the previous year can also still be used as long as they look and smell inconspicuous, Warentest clarifies. However, caution is required here, as the Industry Association for Personal Care and Detergents (IKW) notes.
