War in Ukraine: Faced with “rivers of blood”, the Pope calls for humanitarian corridors

After the Angelus prayer, the pontiff called for the establishment of “real humanitarian corridors” to help the populations. “The victims are more and more numerous, as are the people on the run, especially mothers and children. The need for humanitarian assistance in this martyred country is increasing dramatically from hour to hour”explained the Argentinian. “I appeal wholeheartedly to ensure that real humanitarian corridors are guaranteed and that aid is guaranteed and facilitated access to besieged areas to offer vital relief to our brothers and sisters oppressed by bombs and fear”he says again.

While many Ukrainian flags were present among the faithful gathered in Saint Peter’s Square, the Vatican resident also campaigned for an end to the fighting. “I implore that the armed attacks stop and that negotiations resume, common sense too, and that we start respecting international law again”he urges, thanking, at the same time, the journalists who “put their lives in danger” to inform the world about the events in Ukraine.
