Around 20 young people from all types of school clicked into the first digital youth forum in the city of Waldkirch. Due to the corona-related ban on contact, the event could not take place in the Haus der Jugend. However, there is still a desire to participate in the local political discussion. That is why the youth social workers invited them to a digital exchange.

The video conference moderated by translake showed that the adolescents are active even in times of the corona pandemic and can achieve a lot.

Of particular interest was the realization of a mountain bike trail and a dirt park for bicycles. Mobility, particularly public transport, and opportunities and support for activities during the pandemic were two other areas that the young people wanted to share.

Plans for the next steps are already in place for the MTB trail, with nine routes being defined in a first step. Tom reported that they had raised the issue before the council and the feedback was good. “The route should in any case lead through the city forest because it’s easier because of safety,” says Tom. Further appointments have been made with Dieter Loos, head of the Forest Department, and landscape planner Hans-Joachim Zurmöhle.

In terms of mobility, the connection to Freiburg is in the foreground for young people, especially at the weekend. “Even for friends who want to go back to Freiburg from Waldkirch, there is nothing after 10 p.m.,” noted one of the participants. The young people are concerned about the uncertainty of what bus traffic will look like after the completion of the expansion of the Breisgau S-Bahn, as well as the amount of the ticket prices.

Which platforms offer the opportunity to experience something together? How can you spend varied time together without seeing yourself personally? “We meet online and play“ werewolf ”there, a young woman reported,“ scribbl.io ”or board games also offer entertainment. Niclas would like to offer streaming along the lines of “United we stream”.

Regarding the question of legal spray options, Reza Begas, head of city youth work, has agreed to three projects that could be designed in the future as part of workshops. “We haven’t found a classic graffiti wall yet. For example, it should also be suitable for being sprayed several times, ”says Begas. Houses that are being demolished are an alternative: “As far as I know there are none of these at the moment,” he said.

Finally, Mayor Roman Götzmann stopped by in the video chat and answered questions. “What will the station forecourt look like in the future?” Asked one participant. “Before the summer vacation, a citizens’ workshop was planned, which is not possible due to the current situation. Basically, the buildings, apart from the train station itself, belong to the city, ”says Götzmann, which definitely creates scope for design. Another question was aimed at whether the training starts as planned. Götzmann said that it could not be foreseen yet and that the responsible chambers could best provide information about it.

“Could the summer vacation be canceled?” Asked one participant. Götzmann pointed out that it might make sense to shorten the summer vacation in order to make up for the canceled class time. “But you shouldn’t drop out. It’s not a school, but it’s not really relaxed either. A certain amount of vacation time would certainly make sense, ”he emphasized.

Then the mayor asked the young people: “What is annoying you at the moment? How about communicating with the school? ”One young person said that it was not possible to prepare for graduation equally well for everyone. “Some people don’t have a computer or the internet is bad, some are very disadvantaged. Of course, it’s also stupid not to meet your friends. “

Most drew a good conclusion in the final round, but concrete planning is much easier to do in face-to-face events. Thanks to the competent moderators and good technical preparation, the exchange was very informative for everyone involved.
