Wake-up service 21/3: Catshuis consultation • Commemoration of the arrival of Moluccans in the Netherlands

Are you going on the road? Here you will find it overview of the work. Check the railway timetable.

What can you expect?

  • There is a Catshuis consultation about the corona measures. On the table are the partial opening of higher education, the terraces and the abolition of curfews. However, due to the rising brewing figures, insiders consider the chance of easing to be small. On Tuesday evening we will know what has been decided when Prime Minister Rutte and Minister De Jonge give a press conference. Or sooner, of course, if the measures leak out earlier.
  • Demonstrations against racism and fascism are taking place in various places in the country as part of the International Day against Racism. There are demonstrations in Amsterdam, The Hague, Groningen, Maastricht and Rotterdam, among others.
  • It is 70 years ago that the first large group of Moluccan KNIL soldiers and their families arrived in the Netherlands with the ship Kota Inten. The NOS will broadcast a program to commemorate the event to commemorate 70 years of Moluccans in the Netherlands. This can be followed on NPO2 from 5.45 pm.
  • Five games are scheduled in the premier league. PEC Zwolle-VVV Venlo (12.15 pm), AZ-PSV and Vitesse-Willem II (both from 2.30 pm), Heracles Almelo-Sparta Rotterdam (4.45 pm) and Ajax-ADO The Hague (8 pm). All matches can be followed live via a live blog on NOS.nl, in the NOS app and via Langs de Lijn on NPO Radio 1.

What did you miss?

About twenty thousand Israelis demonstrated in Jerusalem last night at Prime Minister Netanyahu’s residence. According to Israeli media, it was the largest demonstration of this year. There will be elections in Israel in three days and protesters want the 71-year-old prime minister to leave, partly because he is suspected of bribery and fraud.

In the polls, his Likud party is in good shape. His supporters praise Netanyahu for his rapid vaccination campaign. Israelis are allowed to vote on Tuesday for the fourth time in two years. A real alternative to Netanyahu does not seem available.

Other news from the night:

And then this:

The police found about 3,800 liters of laughing gas in a building in Maastricht. The gas was contained in large canisters, some of which was in a refrigerator.

Nitrous oxide is explosive and there is a risk of explosion, especially when large quantities are stored. The police therefore take the matter very seriously. “This is no laughing matter!” Said one post on Facebook.

The owner of the building in Maastricht has received an official report.
