Various parties in the House of Representatives want to oblige companies to ban such things as forced labor, modern slavery and environmental pollution from their production chains. SP, GroenLinks, PvdA and ChristenUnie have come up with a private member’s bill for this. According to the law, if the companies do not conduct their business ethically responsible, they can be sanctioned.

As an example, the parties cite clothing that is made by oppressed Uyghurs in China and that is simply available in Dutch shops. But the years of struggle of Nigerians against pollution from oil extraction by Shell is also a reason.
