Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, who visited France, explained Japan’s position on the Sado mine to UNESCO.
After the battleship island, they are working hard to re-register as a world heritage site, denying the history of forced labor by Koreans.

Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida visited Paris, France, the first destination on his G7 tour of seven major countries.
In addition to the summit meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron, I also met with UNESCO.
Prime Minister Kishida met with UNESCO Secretary-General Audrey Azoulay and explained about the Sado Mine, which Japan is seeking to register as a World Heritage Site.

Last year, when Japan decided to nominate Sado Mine, a forced labor site for Koreans, as a World Heritage Site, South Korea expressed strong opposition.
Japan, however, is denying the historical fact itself instead of talking about it.

They said they would include content to honor the victims of forced labor at the exhibition hall on Gunhamdo Island, but Japan didn’t keep that promise either.
When UNESCO urged corrective action and asked for an improvement report, the Japanese government rather insisted that there was no discrimination against Koreans.

UNESCO is not conducting an examination of the Sado Mine, saying the contents of the recommendation letter issued by the Japanese government last year were not sufficient.
The Japanese government expects to resubmit the recommendation by the 1st of next month.
If the World Heritage Committee, which was due to be held in Russia in June last year, was postponed without a promise, if the review is resumed, it is expected to ignite another spark in Korea-Japan relations.
