But after a few months in Zanzibar things went wrong. “What a poisoned gift,” the couple responds. VTM also says it regrets the outcome.

“It is a great pity that Thomas and Ileen’s adventure in Zanzibar ended faster than expected,” says VTM spokesperson Tine Danschieter. “After the program, they started their chapter in Zanzibar together with the owners of the resort with great enthusiasm. Unfortunately, after a few months, the collaboration turned out to be more difficult than expected. They then decided to go their separate ways. That is very unfortunate, but with what Thomas and Ileen have shown in the program, we are convinced that they will still make their dream come true.”
Thomas and Ileen declined to comment further.
