Voting begins for the NBA All-Star Game; Will there be a duel?

By TIM REYNOLDS.-

Voting for the NBA All-Star Game begins this Thursday, although it has not been determined whether the game will be possible this season.

“Discussions continue about the possibility of having the All-Star Game,” the league explained Wednesday.

On Monday, The Associated Press reported that there are talks about the possibility of holding an All-Star Game that benefits historical African-American institutions and supports the response to COVID-19, although no plan has been defined.

Still, the league wants players who deserve to be chosen for the All-Star Game to receive that honor, regardless of whether the game takes place or not.

Voting begins at noon on Thursday (1700 GMT) and ends on February 16 at 11:59 p.m. (0459 GMT).

“Choosing the All-Star Game is an annual tradition that honors a unique group of players for their extraordinary performance during the season,” said NBA President of Operations Byron Spruell in a statement received by The Associated Press.

The process will be the same as in recent years: incumbents will be chosen with a formula of 50% of the vote of the fans, 25% of a media panel and 25% of the NBA players. Headlines will be announced on February 18.

The All-Star substitutes, chosen by NBA coaches, will be announced on February 23. The details of the meeting have yet to be defined, should it take place.

Atlanta could be the venue. It is also unknown if the game will have the same format as last year, when the rules were changed in search of making it more competitive.
