Vote on the law on the vaccine pass: reactions in Burgundy

After having debated in a fairly tense climate, the bill on the vaccine pass was voted on this Thursday, January 6 at 5:20 am. The text must now pass through the ranks of the Senate. The government hopes for an entry into force by January 15.

The bill on the vaccine pass was adopted this Thursday, January 6 by the deputies with 214 votes for and 93 against and 27 abstainers. We went to meet three Burgundians, a politician, a non-vaccinated and a restaurateur, who react to the result of the vote of the National Assembly.

Guillaume Larrivé, deputy for Yonne

The LR deputy for Yonne, Guillaume Larrivé, is one of the 214 deputies who voted in favor of the health pass “I voted in favor of this text to speed up the vaccination effort and protect the health of the French”. The elected icaunais thus considers “that we need to be vaccinated and I think with good sense”.

However, the member does not fully agree with the government’s strategy. With his political group, he is one of those who voted against some amendments. “There are government errors that need to be corrected. For example, young people under the age of 16 have been removed from the vaccination pass who will still be able to go to sport with a health pass and not necessarily a vaccination pass.“.

Anthony, unvaccinated

Anthony Dutartre-Stallier is 31 years old and has not been vaccinated. For this unemployed Dijonnais, the adoption of the vaccination pass will not change his daily life. “I get sick once a year and again. If I get sick, I would assume”.

For the young man, the vaccination pass would call into question everyone’s freedom. “I respect the vaccinated but we are in a free country so I believe that I have the right to have my freedom not to get vaccinated”.

This thirty-something lives alone with his mother who is sick. Usually he avoids crowded places. “Ultimately, the vaccine pass is the same as the health pass. It’s to go to restaurants and cinemas, things I don’t do.”

Bruno Toussaint, restaurateur in Dijon

As soon as the vaccination pass comes into effect, it will no longer be possible for a person simply presenting a negative PCR or antigen test to go to a restaurant. Bruno Toussaint, deputy director of the Editorial restaurant in Dijon, is not worried if his future turnover drops despite the adoption of the law.

According to this manager, the unvaccinated going to his restaurant represent nearly 5% of his clientele. “It’s a very small part that we will no longer be able to count on. I’m not worried more than that. It’s only a tiny part of the iceberg. That’s not what will take us in the water. “.

The bill also provides that restaurateurs can control the identity of people who present the vaccination pass. Bruno Toussaint believes that it is not the role of restaurateurs to carry out these checks. “It’s personal identity so it becomes embarrassing to control but if we have to do it, we will”, he concludes.
