Czech tennis player Markéta Vondroušová defeated the second Belgian woman Elise Mertens 7: 5, 6: 2 in the quarterfinals in Luxembourg. The silver Olympic medalist from Tokyo will compete with Clara Tauson to advance to the finals. The eighteen-year-old Danka eliminated Maria Bouzková 6: 3, 6: 2 and thus defeated a possible Czech semifinal.

Vondrouš, the fifth seed, made it to the semifinals on the WTA circuit for the first time since the January preparatory tournament in the Melbourne Yarra Valley Classic. In the opening set, she had to avert a 3: 5 setball against Mertens and a successfully completed critical game started her turn. In the end, she got the set 7: 5 and in the second set she had the game under control.
Twenty-three-year-old Bouzková reached the quarterfinals for the first time since the June grass tournament in Birmingham, after which she lost six times in the first round and failed in qualifying in Cincinnati. However, she did not get a chance against Tauson to follow up on the semi-final participation from the March clay tournament in Guadalajara. She didn’t make a single breakball in the match and lost in an hour and a half.
