MINSK, April 20 – Sputnik. The German automaker Volkswagen will pay 620 million euros to 200 thousand citizens affected by the diesel scandal in the framework of the settlement of the pre-trial lawsuit, the press service of the automaker said.

Payments to victims will begin on May 5. Depending on the age and model of the car, buyers will receive from 1350 to 6250 euros.

“The large number of settlement agreements today is evidence that our customers found a fair offer and that the path to concluding individual settlement agreements worked well,” said VW spokesman Hiltrud Werner.

Earlier in Wolfsburg they said that they had concluded an agreement with the Federal Union for the Protection of Consumer Rights for consumer compensation for diesel cars. Then the company noted that the total amount of compensation will be 830 million euros.

Earlier it became known that Volkswagen using software underestimated the emissions of harmful substances from diesel cars. In the United States, the car group was obliged to recall 482 thousand cars sold from 2009-2015. In 2017, VW agreed on the amount of fines paid – $ 4.4 billion.

The Volkswagen Group is Europe’s largest automaker, combining Volkswagen, Audi, Skoda, Seat, Lamborghini, Bentley and Bugatti. The company also produces trucks at the Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles and Scania plants.
