Volkswagen cars have not been produced at Nizhny Novgorod GAZ since 2018 (now only Skoda is in the production program), but soon the German brand cars can return to the conveyor. As previously reported, the company plans to begin assembling Tharu crossovers for the Russian market this year. Under the Tharu name, an analogue of the Skoda Karoq SUV already manufactured there is hidden, but such a crossover under the Volkswagen brand is still only in China (pictured).
And subsequently, the list of cars localized in Russia will be replenished with two more mysterious models: according to Prime agency information, by 2028 Volkswagen will invest 61.5 billion rubles in the framework of the concluded SPIC, which will be used to modernize production and start production of the “large-size SUV” and the “new compact model SUV. “
Alas, it remains only to guess what kind of cars in question. It is possible that the “compact SUV” means the updated Volkswagen Tiguan, which will be presented within a few months, and the “large-sized” model that will receive Russian registration may be the seven-seat Teramont crossover (now it is delivered to us from the USA) or more popular in our Touareg market. In addition, Volkswagen plans to launch production of 1.4 TSI turbo engines in Kaluga (in addition to the already aspirated 1.6 engines there), as well as other automotive components. The exact dates are still a secret – the concern will probably take more than one year to implement the announced plans.
