Volkswagen is considering selling some brands from the group

German car giant Volkswagen decides what to do with the top brands Bugatti, Lamborghini and Ducati in its portfolio. According to Reuters, which refers to two unnamed members of the group’s board of directors, the future of the three manufacturers under the wings of VW AG is in jeopardy due to the need to produce electric cars on a large scale.

There are many options for what will happen to brands, but the end of activities should not be on the table yet. According to the agency, members of management talk about technology partnerships for these brands, restructuring, independence or sale. The latter would also be indicated by recent rumors that Bugatti goes under Rimac, a Croatian manufacturer of electric supersports.

The group is investigating whether it has enough resources to develop electric platforms for brands that are small in terms of the number of cars sold. It is currently investing billions of euros in transforming its main offering into electromobility. It also includes a number of electrified versions of the Škoda Octavia and the new Enyaq electric car.

The head of the Herbert Diess Group did not comment on the future of the three top brands, but said that the company must change significantly for the future era of electric and autonomous vehicles. However, he indicated the changes: “We need to focus and ask ourselves what this transformation will mean for each part of the VW Group.”

In November, the top of the group will meet and a decision will be made. Until then, we can only speculate.
