Voice Actor Charles Martinet Retires as the Voice of Mario: Nintendo Announces Departure

One of the most famous voices in the gaming world, voice actor Charles Martinet, is calling it quits. He has been the voice of Mario in all of Nintendo’s Super Mario games and movies since 1991. Martinet and Mario are known for sayings like “it’s-a me, Mario!” and “mamma mia!” Martinet also voiced Mario’s brother Luigi and villain Wario.

Martinet and Nintendo announced his departure on Monday on X, formerly Twitter. The 67-year-old Martinet will continue as an ambassador for the game. The reason for the departure has not been disclosed. It is also not yet known who will succeed him. Martinet himself says on X: “My new adventure begins! You are all number one in my heart! #woohoo.”
