VMSZ vice-president: continuous police presence is necessary on the Serbian-Hungarian border

When asked how long the Serbian special forces and police units will remain at the border, Elvira Kovács said: they have been asking for their continuous, increased presence for a very long time. He recalled: in the beginning, there were only actions that gathered the migrants, “there were also actions by bus and in very large numbers”, then they left. However, the police and the Serbian government realized that this is a permanent problem that must be dealt with continuously, he emphasized.

As he said, the reception centers were set up to get the migrants there, “but they were encouraged, they allowed them to walk freely”. He recalled that in 2015, for example, “the targets were Magyarkanizsa, Horgos, and Hungarian local government settlements, then Majdány-Rábé belonging to the Törökkanizsa village”. The population there rightly felt that they were not safe, he noted.
