Bruno Oliveira, 20, was diagnosed with Hoddgkin’s lymphoma three years ago, having managed, twice, to reverse the disease. Now, he needs a bone marrow transplant, with Futebol Clube Vizela, through social networks, to appeal to the volunteering of possible donors.
Through social networks, the club highlights the “family roots” in Vizela de Bruno, who was a former player in the formation of Feirense and Cesarense. Bruno’s father is from São Miguel, municipality of Vizela, although his son was born in Oliveira de Azeméis.
THE Vizela Radio, Bruno’s father explain that treatments started in 2017, at the Porto IPO. “He underwent chemotherapy treatments, was hospitalized several times (…) then he managed to overcome the lymphoma, he was cured,” he said.
However, the lymphoma has reappeared. After several immunotherapy and chemotherapy sessions, the cancer went into remission again, overcoming a new complicated phase for Bruno’s health.
Meanwhile, the medical team advised an autotransplant, removing and freezing the “good” cells, to be applied again if the lymphoma returned, but the cells were not enough.
“The medical team met again and we were told to have a bone marrow transplant. We need a compatible donor for him. We are fighting, it is one day at a time ”, added the parent.
A student in the first year of his degree in Physiotherapy and Osteopathy, in Porto, Bruno had to suspend his studies due to the disease.
Parents now ask those interested in whether they are compatible with Bruno to appear in the blood collections of the Association of Benevolent Blood Donors of Vizela, during the month of March.
On March 8, from 9:00 am to 12:30 pm, at the Centro Paroquial de S. Paio, there is the first collection session. The second takes place on the 25th, from 15:00 to 19:00, at Escola de Infias. The third and fourth will take place on the 28th and 29th, at the Escola Secundária de Vizela, between 09:00 and 12:30.
