Vítkovice will fly west. They will go to matches in Karlovy Vary and Pilsen by plane

Not the traditional six hours by bus, but unusually by air, hockey players from Vítkovice will go to two extra-league matches on Friday in Karlovy Vary and on Saturday in Pilsen. They are testing a regular airline of the Polish company LOT Polish Airlines, which recently connected Ostrava and Prague.

“Vítkovice hockey players have in the past used air connections for matches in Prague and in destinations west of Prague, or to Košice. However, this was still in the days of the federal league. Since the establishment of the independent Extraliga, they have been traveling around the Czech Republic exclusively by bus for almost thirty years. Now, thanks to a regular flight between Prague and Ostrava, the journey to the other end of the country can be significantly shorter and also more comfortable, “said club spokesman Zdeněk Janiurek.

The agreement between the Moravian-Silesian Region and the Polish airline, which has been operating a regular flight on the Warsaw – Prague – Warsaw route with a stopover at Leoš Janáček Airport in Ostrava, provided the Ostrava residents with the opportunity to exchange a long haul across the country for a comfortable flight.

Six years ago, something unthinkable. But now Jágr turns around and changes his mind

On Thursday afternoon, the Vítkovice team will take a flight to Prague, from where they will take a bus to Karlovy Vary, where the match of the 21st round of the Tipsport Extraliga hockey team will be waiting for them on Friday from half past five. On Saturday, he will perform on the ice of Pilsen from 15:15. Back to Ostrava, they traditionally leave from Pilsen by bus.

Vítkovice is not the first extra-league team to travel to matches by air. In 2015, for example, Třinec went to the final fights with Litvínov with an air special.
