Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin has published a project roadmap for the next 5-10 years. It covers not only the Ethereum 2.0 network, but also the later stages of ecosystem development.
This is my approximate view of what the next ~ 5-10 years of eth2 and beyond might look like.

So, when starting the zero phase of the Ethereum 2.0 main network, gas cost calculations, customer synchronization and principles for changing fees will be revised. This will integrate the Ethereum 2.0 light client with Ethereum 1.0.
Further work of the system is subject to audit and testing, and only after that it will be possible to merge the two systems with a complete rejection of the Proof-of-Work algorithm.
The second and subsequent phases are presented in the roadmap as abstract steps. They contain points on the implementation of post-quantum cryptography and polynomial obligations, on the further development of the Ethereum virtual machine, as well as on the implementation of the delay function (VDF) to solve the problem of generating pseudorandom numbers on the blockchain.
Buterin emphasized that this scheme was the result of two years of research and reflects his own vision of the future of Ethereum:
“A lot of changes are still being made to reduce the complexity of the system, but the main issues are now related to development. Over time, the share of development will only grow. Details, of course, may change as new information and new technologies become available. ”
In February, Vitalik Buterin and other Ethereum developers expressed the view that a new version of the network (Eth 2.0) could be launched this year.
