A continuation of the interrupted Bundesliga season? Virologist Jonas Schmidt-Chanasit from the Bernhard Nocht Institute in Hamburg does not believe that after the temporary deadline of April 2, kicking will start again.
He says to NDR: «Even ghost games would make people want to meet again. In this respect, I believe that the decision to let football games take place again can only be made at the very end. »
And further: «I don’t think we can talk about it again in April, not even about ghost games. Because they have the potential that people say we all meet at home in the apartment. »
«Period that can be reached at the earliest next year»
Schmidt-Chanasit “firmly believes” that the current season cannot be ended. And he does not make a good forecast for the time beyond: “Even if it doesn’t hit us as badly as Italy, it doesn’t mean that football can start again. This would again exacerbate the situation. That means we are talking about a period that can be reached at the earliest next year. »
If Schmidt-Chanasit is right, the same scenario should occur in Switzerland. In this country, too, are there still countless question marks regarding the sporting future? Everything depends on the corona development. League operations will be at least until April 30th. (mpe)
