Virologist Steven Van Gucht nominated for Wablieft-prize | Inland

The radio program “De Inspecteur”, virologist Steven Van Gucht and the website “De Welzijnswijzer” from the city of Roeselare are the three contenders for the Wablieft Prize this year. This prize is awarded to a person, project or organization that uses clear language. The winner will be announced on December 15th.

How do you make information clear to everyone? That is the starting point of the annual Wablieft-prize, which is awarded by the Center for Clear Language. Last year, the prize went to the PhD Cup of Scriptie vzw, a competition for Flemish doctoral students in which they learn to explain their scientific research in clear language to a wide audience in three minutes.

This year virologist Steven Van Gucht is one of the contenders. “He always communicates easily, without losing nuance. He has a voice and a face that radiate confidence. Van Gucht always remains understanding and calm. He gives the feeling that together we can overcome this virus”, the organization said.

The radio program “De Inspecteur” and “De Welzijnswijzer” from the city of Roeselare, a website for all residents of Roeselare who have questions about all kinds of social themes, have also been nominated this year. The winner will be announced on Tuesday December 15th.

Marc Van Ranst

Fellow virologist Marc Van Ranst already won prizes this week. He was awarded the Science Communication Career Prize 2020 by the Royal Flemish Academy of Belgium for Sciences and Arts (KVAB) and the Young Academy this week for his clear and broad communication about his field, even in very challenging circumstances.
