Violent Storm Causes Flooding in the Town of Lunas

At the end of the night, a violent storm surprised all the inhabitants of the town of Lunas. More than 350 mm of water fell in four hours.

Aurélien Manenc, the mayor of Lunas, is hard at work with all his teams. Even if this Saturday, September 16, early in the morning, the Orb had begun to decline, it was not a time for peace.

“The residents were very surprised. 350 mm of water fell in four hours. We are on the same scale as the phenomenon that occurred in Lamalou in 2014. Luckily, we do not report any casualties. We have flooded streets, residents taking refuge on the first floor of their house. We activated the municipal protection plan and opened the community hall to the refugees.”

A brutal rise in the Orb

This Saturday morning, what surprised everyone was the sudden rise in the waters of the Orb. Five cars were swept away, including one with a person going to work on board. Luckily, the latter was able to jump out of her car. She is safe and sound. The hamlet of Taillevent is the most affected. This is where homes were flooded and since the early hours of the morning, firefighters and municipal employees have been hard at work pumping water and cleaning homes.

No victims

“The Orb which had left its bed is in the process of becoming normal again. We just hope that it will not rain again like it did this late night. We have around thirty houses flooded and the main thing” none victim”, insists Aurélien Manenc.

In Lunas, in the memory of residents, never had the Orb emerged from its bed with such speed. It is this phenomenon that has frightened a large part of the population. now everything seems to be back to normal.
