Villa Noailles in Hyères improvises a program that celebrates life

In Hyères in the Var, Villa Noailles organizes exhibitions at the last minute that replace the design parade festival, postponed to 2021.

This summer, the Villa Noailles art center is forced to change its usual programming but offers a moment of unprecedented discoveries with young artists in residence. The main rooms of the villa are taken over by the imagination of Antoine Carbonne. Here, the plastic artist creates large frescoes in front of the public.

Antoine Carbonne’s artistic universe mixes both real forms and fantasized elements. The young Brussels artist immediately accepted this invitation to the villa Noailles. An interactive experience with the public, close to their artistic approach, giving the viewer an active part in creation. “The interest is that they see the evolution of a work being done, it’s not really an artistic performance in the usual sense, it’s just a work in progress “, he explains.

The visit also continues din the squash halls, at the swimming pool, in the gymnasium with Regulus, a work painted directly on the walls of the villa Noailles. Frescoes in brilliant colors which offer a reflection on blindness by light.

This improvised programming is also part of the present. Series Heroes, Heroines is a tribute to all those who keep us alive. The collective exhibition recounts, through various media, this troubled period. On the artists’ works, the shadow of the Coronavirus hovers and the masks cover the faces of the models. “I told myself that we had to keep a photographic, sound, pictorial testimony of this very special moment “, says Jean-Pierre Blanc, Director of Villa Noailles.

The exhibition A summer in Hyères takes place in Toulon, at the Hôtel des Arts, in the Galerie du Canon and in the old bishopric. Many artists present their works there until October 2020.
