VII Interscholastic Christmas Carol Contest “Ciudad de San Roque” Awards Ceremony and Performances

On Tuesday afternoon, the Juan Luis Galiardo Theater hosted the VII Interscholastic Christmas Carol Contest “Ciudad de San Roque”, organized by the AMPA of Colegio Maestro Apolinar. For San Roque, the choirs from the Maestro Apolinar, Santa María Coronada and San Bernardo schools performed. Two choirs from CEIP Santiago and one from CEIP Pedro Simón Abril came from La Línea. Also, and out of competition, there was a performance of the sign language workshop.

Three prizes were awarded in school supplies, of 150, 100 and 50 euros each, which went, in this order, to one of the choirs of the CEIP Santiago, the CEIP Santa María Coronada and the CEIP San Bernardo. There were also raffles for the audience, which practically filled the stalls.

The Deputy Mayor for Education, Mónica Córdoba, attended the event, along with other councilors of the Corporation. Several establishments in San Roque collaborated with this event, as well as different delegations from the City Council, the theater staff and the Multimedia company.

The contest began with the Christmas proclamation by Paqui Lara, which was presented by last year’s crier, Mayte García. In her intervention, the singer from San Roque had words for the little girl to whom the proceeds are destined, a girl sister of a student of Maestro Apolinar who suffers from osteogenesis imperfecta (glass bones), and who is a member of the Association “Pequeños “Uncaped Heroes”.

In the proclamation, Lara also had words of remembrance for Don Apolinar, her childhood teacher, who she said was not only a great teacher, but that he was “great as a person.” She ended her intervention with a flamenco carol, accompanied by guitarist Manuel Peralta.

Then the competition itself began, in which a total of six choirs performed. The CEIP Maestro Apolinar opened fire, and the CEIP Santa María Coronada and the CEIP San Bernardo also competed for San Roque. Three groups came from La Línea: two choirs from CEIP Santiago and one from CEIP Pedro Simón Abril. During the jury’s deliberation, the sign language workshop took place, out of competition.
