Vienna University of Technology is supposed to unravel St. Valentine’s transport hub

The questionnaire will be asked at the beginning of April: First of all, the aim is to find out who is going to which destination in St. Valentin and the surrounding area on foot, by bike, by bus or by car. “I hope the citizens are actively involved,” says City Councilor Franz Knöbl (G), who is responsible for the environment, climate protection and mobility in St. Valentine’s Town Hall. “The data is of course anonymized.” The transport scientist Harald Frey from the Vienna University of Technology should find out from the wealth of answers. The municipality commissioned him with a traffic concept that should meet the requirements of climate protection. “The aim is”, says Mayor Kerstin Suchan-Mayr (SP) in agreement with the green city council, “that we make St. Valentine’s traffic and mobility climate-friendly.”

Knöbl, who replaced Monika Oberradter, who had been the Green Mandate for many years as a city councilor in November, sees an extensive switch from car to means of transport such as shank’s pony, cycling and public transport as inevitable. Traffic calming should also bring quality of life back into the city. Harald Frey’s study is intended to form the scientific basis and sound out the feasibility. The reorganization of mobility in St. Valentin should also noticeably reduce carbon dioxide emissions.
