The police of the Geyersvlijt bureau detained 23-year-old car driver Chantal V. on Sunday 23 May. The young woman drove into a moped rider and his duo rider on the Powisistraat on that particular Sunday evening, the Suriname Police Corps reports. A video of this can be seen below.
After the report of a collision between a car and a moped at the aforementioned location, which involved personal accidents, the police visited the location. When they arrived there, the moped rider and his co-driver were found with injuries on the road surface.
The victims were transported by ambulance to the Emergency Department of the Academic Hospital Paramaribo. After medical treatment, both the moped driver and his co-driver were referred to the surgeon.
The police investigation showed that the moped rider and his duo rider drove on the Powisistraat. They came from the direction of the Kristalstraat in the direction of the Anton Dragtenweg, while the driver was driving in the opposite direction. For reasons unknown so far, the woman left her side of the row and ended up on the other side of the row and hit the moped rider and his co-driver.
Chantal, who is not in possession of a driver’s license, was not under the influence of alcohol. She turned out to have taken a housemate’s vehicle without permission to pick up something. The vehicles were significantly damaged and were seized for a general inspection.
After coordination with the Surinamese Public Prosecution Service, Chantal was detained, reports the police.
