VIDEO: The new Shelby GT500 and Corvette C8 sports are measured in an acceleration race

On paper, the GT500 stands out with its great power, while its rival stands out for its speed.

The YouTube channel Hennessey Performance, which specializes in next-generation sports cars, tested the on-road capabilities of two iconic sports cars in their 2020 versions. These are the Chevrolet Corvette C8 and the Ford Mustang Shelby GT500.

On paper, the GT500 stands out for its great power, thanks to its horsepower of 771 hp and torque of 847 Nm, in a 5.2-liter V8 engine. Meanwhile, its rival is equipped with a state-of-the-art 6.2-liter V8 engine, which provides 495 horsepower, and a torque of 637 Nm.

On the other hand, the C8 was improved with the ‘Z51 package’, a series of mechanical components that among other things allow it to accelerate from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in just 2.7 seconds, the magazine Car and Driver details.

Even with those stark differences, the folks at Hennessey Performance decided to compare these two sports cars in a couple of drag and drag races. The first, on a straight from neutral, and then another in which both cars started at a speed of 40 miles per hour (64 kilometers per hour).

In its first meeting on the track, the Corvette stood out with its rapid acceleration from the start and its superiority in this regard was notable. However, the Shelby’s power gave him the advantage later, by picking up speed as they approached 200 km / h. In the second test, the Mustang was even more forceful.

Finally, the Chevrolet’s performance was more than good, despite the power gap between the two.
