Sergio Ramos has snatched the record of goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon, who played 176 caps for Italy. In Switzerland he set the European record with his 177th international match.
But for the rest there was not much to celebrate for the Spanish defender. Ramos, normally deadly efficient from the penalty spot, missed no less than two penalties.
His last 25 penalties were all hit, but against Switzerland it went wrong twice. On the first attempt, Sommer picked up nicely, with the second attempt, Ramos’ kicking technique in particular failed.
Gerard Moreno, the attacker of Villarreal, was able to get a point out of the fire for Spain at the last minute, but the draw breaks them sour in the intermediate score. Germany jumps to the lead.
