The meeting of the Marupe Wind Orchestra during the “Saulesvija” procession is a big celebration. Pēteris Pētersons, the head of the wind orchestra of the Mārupe School of Music and Art, confirms that the orchestra has been maintaining its level since 2013, when they have tried hard to participate in the Centennial Song and Dance Festival. The orchestra has also been to this year’s festival, so young people are sorry that the festival really can’t take place this year.

Mārtiņš Viimājs, the leader of the dance group, says that during the pandemic, the biggest changes were for the big children – they showed other interests. There is a drop in the transfer of festive traditions, however, “Sienāzītis” will cross it and continue to dance.

Māra Ropaži folk dance group “Cielaviņa” has noticed on Instagram. “Cielaviņas” students do everything together, including creating their own logo. The ensemble is led by Teresa Jozefa and her daughter Zane Kristiāna Jozefa, passing on folk dance traditions from generation to generation. The leaders of the team are looking anxiously at the future – how will they be able to preserve and preserve the Latvian cultural heritage in this fast-paced, changing time. However, the ensemble adapts to the situation and has even staged a traditional epidemiologically safer version of the traditional folk dance movement.
