Abu Obeida, spokesman for the Al-Qassam Brigades, a Hamas armed organization, said in a statement released on this day, “The release of further hostages held in the Gaza Strip depends on the cessation of aggression,” local daily Haaretz reported.
He continued, “Israel will not be able to achieve its goal of eliminating the resistance force (Hamas) in the Gaza Strip,” and added, “Israel, which has learned nothing from history, is repeating the same mistakes out of ignorance toward the Palestinians.”
Immediately after distributing the spokesperson’s statement, Al-Qassam Brigades also released a live video of three Israeli male hostages whose bodies were recovered by the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) last week.
The hostages appearing in the video were identified as Elia Toledano, Nik Weiser, and Ron Sherman, another Israeli daily, the Times of Israel, reported.
Al-Qassam Brigades claimed that they were killed in an attack by Israeli forces and that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was responsible.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Netanyahu reiterated in a video message that day, “The fight will continue in the Gaza Strip until Hamas is eliminated,” Al Jazeera reported.
“The choice I gave Hamas is very simple: surrender or die,” he said, adding, “They have no other choice.”
Prime Minister Netanyahu issued a similar statement the day before, saying, “We will not stop fighting until we achieve the goals we have set, including eliminating Hamas, releasing hostages, and ending the threat from the Gaza Strip.”
